- ➤ On Monday, a large house fire on the 13100 block of Beaver Terrace displaced an adult, a child, and a dog while firefighters quickly brought the flames under control as neighbors reported heavy smoke in chilly conditions. WUSA9
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Dave’s Hot Chicken opens its new Rockville Pike location on Thursday at 11564 Rockville Pike after taking over a former McDonald’s restaurant. The chain offers spicy fried chicken with seven heat levels (including a ‘reaper’ sauce for adults) and will operate daily from 10:30 a.m. to midnight. MoCo360

- ➤ Grammy-nominated singer Maggie Rose will return home for her annual Christmas concerts at Bethesda Theater on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, where she will perform holiday favorites and songs from her country and Americana catalog. - ➤ Thomas S. Wootton High School’s Chamber Orchestra is performing today at McCormick Place West in Chicago and Robert Frost Middle School’s Advanced Orchestra will take the stage tomorrow at The Midwest Clinic, the world’s largest instrumental music conference (selected after a competitive review). - ➤ A proposal to move Wootton High permanently to Crown High has sparked mixed responses in the community. A registered PTSA town hall on Tuesday at Wootton discussed option H in district boundary studies, which includes turning the building into a holding school (registration required). MoCo360
- ➤ The Board of Education has delayed the decision to close Silver Spring International Middle School pending an elementary boundary study, instructing Superintendent Taylor to suspend closure plans. In-person and virtual meetings about the proposal are scheduled for January, with a final decision on the study expected in March. WJLA
- ➤ Free summer camp registration is open for Montgomery County kids, with camp fairs on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Germantown Recreation Center and Sunday, Jan. 11 at Marilyn J. - ➤ Maryland Attorney General Brown, along with DC and Virginia officials, sued Uber on Monday, Dec. 15 over Uber One’s billing that charged consumers during free trials and made canceling difficult (a move to protect against deceptive practices). WTOP

- ➤ Local nonprofit WRAP will offer free Lyft rides from Dec. 19 through Jan. 1, 2026 from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to eligible riders aged 21+ in the DMV area to help prevent drunk driving during the holiday season. WJLA
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Tri Pointe Homes received approval (by Montgomery County Planning Board) to redevelop a Derwood office park into Centro Square, which will offer 108 townhomes and 92 apartments with a central park and paths.
