  • A new study ranks Montgomery County as the second best place to live for older adults based on job opportunities, walkability, and affordable housing — a sign of strong local appeal. The report shows benefits for seniors seeking quality living.  WUSA9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Dec. 8, MCPS hosted SkillsUSA competitions at Thomas Edison High where 127 students earned certificates, pins, and prizes as they advanced to regional and state events. Business partners such as Mastro’s Steakhouse - which gifted a three-course meal and tour to culinary winners - also celebrated the students’ success.  Montgomery County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Nov. 26, nearly 300 water main breaks have disrupted service as colder-than-average weather stressed more than 50-year-old pipes in Rockville, and WSSC Water is now handling costly repairs.  FOX 5 DC

  • New local data shows that Rockville buyers face more leverage in the winter housing market with increased inventory and longer listing times compared to last November (median 22 days on the market). Sellers may offer price concessions and repair credits as they adjust to a slower pace of sales.  WUSA9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bethesda native Katie Ledecky competed at her inaugural invitational at the University of Maryland in College Park this past Sunday, winning the 1650-meter freestyle in 14:59.62 and setting a new American record as the first woman to finish under 15 minutes while planning to join competitions including the 2028 Olympics.  Montgomery Community Media
