ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said two space heater fires occurred over the weekend in Glenmont and White Oak. The service advised residents to keep heaters on flat surfaces and plug them directly into the wall—helping prevent nearby items from catching fire.  WJLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Department of Transportation invites high school students to join the Vision Zero Youth Ambassador Program to learn about road safety and help reduce traffic injuries. The free program offers up to 46 hours of student service learning, has 20 to 30 openings, and requires applications by 11:59 p.m. (Dec. 5) with notification by Dec. 19.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County will ban plastic bags at retailers starting January 1, 2026; stores can charge 10 cents per bag and exceptions apply for pharmacy items, fresh produce, meats, seafood, dry cleaning, and garment bags. The county will work with local groups to offer free reusable bags—helping reduce waste and protect waterways.  WUSA9

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Seven Montgomery County restaurants joined D.C. Cocktail Week, which runs through December 7 and offers special drink and food pairings at set prices. Takoma Park’s Motorkat will host a free spirit tasting event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at 6939 Laurel Ave.—showcasing local mixology skills during this festive week.  MoCo360

  • On December 1, Montgomery County state football semifinals saw the Quince Orchard Cougars win 35-0 over the Broadneck Bruins and the Sherwood Warriors beat the Perry Hall Gators 42-14—while the Churchill Bulldogs lost 46-7 to the Wise Pumas. The Cougars will face the Wise Pumas Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium—while the Warriors will meet the Mervo Mustangs Thursday at 7 p.m.  MoCo360
