BUSINESS NEWS

  • Andy’s Pizza will open on Dec. 3 at Westfield Montgomery mall in the main dining terrace—between Chipotle and CAVA at 7101 Democracy Blvd. The new outlet will be the chain’s third Maryland location and comes as Westfield Montgomery prepares for additional openings including a donut shop set to open Friday and a Japanese and Thai fusion eatery planned for early 2026.  MoCo360

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethesda costume designer Paris Francesca uses her theater training to craft stage costumes that mix old fabrics with modern prints—she recently designed outfits for Hello Dolly at Olney Theatre, which runs until Jan. 4. She is now working on new designs for Frosty the Snowman at Adventure Theatre and Chanukah in the Dark at Theatre J.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery Community Media is airing a special edition of its show—The Pulse—on location in downtown Silver Spring at the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade held the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The program features local commentary, interviews with county leaders and longtime residents, and will be broadcast on TV and streamed throughout the holiday season.  Montgomery Community Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA predicts that more than 1.5 million D.C. region residents will drive and thousands will fly this Thanksgiving as travel numbers in the DMV are set to break records (travel estimates by AAA) and lower gas prices at $3.02 per gallon and 3% cheaper hotel rates are expected to boost the holiday. These figures updated last night point to a very busy travel period for the region (record-setting conditions forecast).  FOX 5 DC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich announced a new Montgomery Gives Local campaign on November 26 to help local nonprofits during the holiday season — the campaign aims to address funding cuts and rising demand for services. A $7.75 million spending package approved by the County Council and two grant programs expected to launch Monday will further support community groups.  MoCo360
  • The final Purple Line light rail vehicle was delivered Tuesday, finalizing a fleet of 28 trains now being tested from New Carrollton to College Park while the line will open in two years. Senators Van Hollen and Alsobrooks introduced a bill to rename an Olney post office after Sgt. Edward Lawrence Ramsey — and Santa Lucia Coffee’s cold brew has boosted sales by 40% in the area.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County services will change for Thanksgiving as public offices, schools, libraries and courts stay closed from Wednesday to Friday while trash pickup is postponed and transit services run on a holiday schedule on Thursday — Ride On buses, MARC trains, Metrorail and Metrobus will follow adjusted routes. Residents are advised to plan ahead for these schedule changes.  MoCo360
