- ➤ More than 150 local business owners gathered at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Gaithersburg on November 21 for the first Black in Business awards organized by the Black Business Council and MBA Growth Partners from Rockville. The event honored Black entrepreneurs with five awards — winners met rules of a three-year history and at least $250,000 in annual earnings — and showcased advances in government, hospitality, IT and consumer services. - ➤ At Magruder High School, several groups of students did not follow directions and recorded their altercations on Friday—forcing the school to enact a hold status that lasted from 11:42 a.m. to 12:47 p.m. and prompting an investigation with possible disciplinary actions for those involved. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery County school board approved a six-year, $2.7B capital improvements program to fix facility issues (with some projects remaining provisional until a vote on Silver Spring International Middle School) and it now goes to County Executive Marc Elrich for review, who will include this spending in a county proposal due January 15.
