- ➤ Montgomery County approved historic preservation status for Timberlawn, a Rockville home where Eunice Kennedy Shriver started early work that led to the Special Olympics. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery County Public Schools Board of Education elected Grace Rivera-Oven as president and Brenda Wolff as vice president on November 20 — Rivera-Oven, a former Gaithersburg High School student who started Upcounty Hub and represents District 1, will begin her term on December 1 — while Wolff, representing District 5, was chosen for another term. - ➤ Walter Johnson High School hosted the 47th annual Senior Citizens Luncheon on November 20, welcoming 150 seniors from Montgomery County for a Thanksgiving feast with traditional roast turkey, music, dancing, and live jazz. - ➤ A letter to the editor from a Silver Spring parent criticized MCPS’s plan to close the Visual Art Center at Albert Einstein High School—part of a shift to a new six-region academic model—with concerns that the program’s 50 years of strong art education may be hard to replicate.
