ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • MARC Brunswick Line services have been suspended after a person was hit and killed by a train along Great Seneca Highway—local officials are investigating the incident.  WUSA9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Andy’s Pizza will open its second Montgomery County location today in Gaithersburg at 145 Commerce Square Place in the Market Square shopping center in Kentlands — the locally owned chain offers New York-style slices and full pies and will operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.  MoCo360

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents from the Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence urged the Montgomery County school board to move forward with its current plans for a new regional academic program model that would give students better access to rigorous options like STEM and IB - the board will review the analysis at a meeting on Nov. 20 at 6:45 p.m. in Rockville.  WJLA
  • Montgomery College trustee Omar Lazo, a small business owner from Silver Spring, joined the 2026 Montgomery County school board race on Monday by filing for an at-large seat with the state elections board—he aims to support educators, reduce class sizes, and improve academic and mental health programs. He said he will work to ensure every child has access to a high quality education in local public schools.  MoCo360

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Metrobus allowed riders to pay with a credit or debit card as part of the Tap. Ride. Go. program that first started on Metrorail in late May, and riders using smartphones and watches can also pay; officials said the move may ease fare payment while fare evasion remains high.  WJLA
  • On Tuesday, councilmembers approved $7.75 million from county reserve funds to help local groups with food, housing support, and business expansion after the shutdown hit the area — the package includes $3.5 million for food aid, $2.25 million for nonprofits, $1 million for short-term housing, and $500,000 each for the MoCo Pride Center and business development while 21 people testified at the hearing.  Montgomery Community Media
  • One Fair Wage is leading a statewide effort to collect signatures so that a proposal to raise Maryland’s minimum wage to $25 an hour can appear on the 2026 ballot — lawmakers will then decide whether to let voters decide or pass the increase directly. Opponents caution that the jump may force small businesses to raise prices or reduce hiring.  WJLA
  • Gov. Wes Moore pushed for an economic revival amid budget deficit concerns when he spoke at the Greater Washington Board of Trade's State of the Economy meeting on Tuesday—he stressed the need for future efforts to improve the state's financial health.  WUSA9
  • Governor Wes Moore told business leaders at National Harbor on Tuesday that they must take big bets in 2026 to diversify Maryland’s economy away from education, government, and health care — he urged a simpler process for businesses to grow after the lengthy shutdown.  WTOP
