- ➤ A report from the Potomac Conservancy shows that the Potomac River remains rated B for water quality and is unsafe for fishing and swimming—local eateries in Silver Spring and Takoma Park started an end-of-year food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank until Dec. 31. Montgomery County police also awarded an officer and a sergeant for their life-saving actions during a six-hour watch over a suicidal man and a protective stop of a dangerous driver. MoCo360

- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools is reviewing a plan to install new synthetic turf or replace grass fields at six high schools as part of a $15 million improvement project under its $2.7 billion capital budget. Board members and staff discussed safety, cost, and field use and will vote on the proposal on Nov 20—balancing school needs and community concerns. MoCo360
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools hosted a lunch for furloughed federal workers last week when nearly 1,900 parents and guardians joined their children for a meal—more than 120 guests also visited the Central Office pop-up job fair to explore district career options. - ➤ Federal workers returned to their offices after Congress ended a 43-day shutdown Wednesday night and now worry that a new funding lapse will force another shutdown when the continuing resolution expires on January 30—leaving many concerned about future pay and recruitment. - ➤ The Montgomery County Planning Board approved a proposal for a 172-unit, seven-story apartment building to replace 32 garden-style apartments near Bethesda Row.
