COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A Kensington resident reported hearing coyotes yipping and howling outside her home on November 4, prompting her to keep her cat indoors at night. Biologist Joshua Tabora advised residents to secure small pets when coyotes are nearby — although conflicts with people remain very rare. MoCo360

- ➤ A Montgomery Co. middle school student was struck in the head by a metal object thrown during PE class (Oct 22) and was hospitalized in intensive care before becoming awake and starting physical therapy. WTOP
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Odessa Shannon Middle student was injured when a metal object hit his head during a physical education class on Oct. 22—he is now undergoing physical therapy while school officials and police continue to investigate the incident. MoCo360
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools ended its Mental Health Awareness Week on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Gaithersburg High School with a Mental Health and Wellness Fair that brought together students, families and staff. MCPS and community partners offered wellness resources, a student-led forum and interactive workshops—such as Zumba, yoga and line dancing—to support emotional well-being. - ➤ After two education groups asked MCPS to slow its review of a new regional program model, the Black and Brown Coalition said the plan is overdue and will give underserved students more access—MCPS is set to present its recommendation in January with a school board vote in March. The changes will affect middle and high school students, and the first admissions for the new program will begin next school year. MoCo360
- ➤ Glen Haven Elementary School hosted its second annual Purple Star Breakfast Bunch on November 11 to honor military families with a shared meal and community support. The school will host a larger celebration in April for the Month of the Military Child — a sign of its ongoing commitment as Montgomery County Public Schools’ only Purple Star School. - ➤ A report by the Maryland State Board of Education found that Montgomery County Public Schools violated its own rules by awarding a $168 million electric bus contract, and the district is still reviewing the report's implications. A Potomac mansion once owned by Dan Snyder will be auctioned with opening bids from $7.5 million to $11 million to benefit the American Cancer Society, while former police chief Tom Manger visited a District 18 breakfast club to discuss local issues. - ➤ Metro will launch its 'Tap. Ride. Go.' payment system on all Metrobuses by mid-November to let riders tap their credit or debit cards to pay fares. The new system replaces the SmarTrip card (it may also help reduce fare evasion) and is expected to improve the payment process. WTOP

- ➤ October data from Maryland Realtors shows home sale prices rose 3% compared to last year while homes took 17 days to sell instead of 11, and more listings have given buyers extra choices—Governor Moore has set aside state land for new housing to boost supply.
