  • Takoma Park Middle School teacher Joe Evans won $18,529 from Jeopardy by winning Tuesday night and finishing second Wednesday night. Urban One in Silver Spring announced layoffs on Tuesday after five consecutive quarterly losses while Tally Ho in Potomac appeared on The Real Housewives of Potomac.  MoCo360
  • Today, 7News On Your Side helped secure free warehouse space for Montgomery County Toys for Tots so that incoming toy donations have a home until the end of December — organizer Elizabeth Scott and Realtor Charisse Scott celebrated the success with local support.  WJLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Sligo-Branview Community Association is hosting an art walk in Silver Spring + 10 local artists will show pottery, pysanky eggs, silver jewelry, paintings and collages from their homes during free events from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Organizer Anita Krishnamurthi, inspired by a Cambridge art event, said she will donate her sale proceeds to a local food bank + she hopes the event will help neighbors connect.  MoCo360

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS school psychologist Nicole Rodriguez-Caraballo shared her three years of experience during National School Psychology Week, held November 3-7, and highlighted her work in supporting student well-being. She explained that small steps—such as a brief self-care break or a nature walk—can help both students and teachers manage daily challenges.  Montgomery County Public Schools
  • At Roberto Clemente Middle School, teachers built a 30-minute daily SOAR period into the school day to support students with social-emotional learning, academic help, and personal growth. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maryland Transit Administration announced free transit on Veterans Day for U.S. military veterans, active-duty personnel, and National Guard and Reserves—eligible riders must show a valid ID to use local buses, Metro, light rail, MARC train, commuter bus, and mobility services.  WJLA
  • Governor Wes Moore announced on Friday that Maryland will soon provide extra help for workers hurt by the government shutdown — the new measures target those impacted by the shutdown and aim to ease their financial stress. These steps mark the state's continued efforts to support its workforce during government disruptions.  WUSA9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Quince Orchard High School football, the undefeated defending Maryland Class 4A state champions with 22 wins in a row, played its home playoff game against Gaithersburg on Nov. 7—after a 35 to 0 win in the regular season—and will play Northwest on Nov. 14 if they win to try for a fourth state title.  Montgomery Community Media
