COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery Parks held an open house last night at Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Takoma Park—residents reviewed two concept designs for the new 10,000-square-foot skate park at Long Branch Local Park. Park renovations are underway with groundbreaking set for late 2026 and an expected opening in 2027.  MoCo360

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County passed a law that bans drivers from stopping or parking in bike lanes—officials say the rule will be enforced immediately.  WUSA9
  • Montgomery County is joining efforts to help Jamaica recover after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage in parts of the Caribbean. County leaders said they will send relief supplies and work with partners to support communities still recovering.  WUSA9
  • Several community members attended a county budget forum at Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville on Monday night to push for funds to fix MCPS buildings for the fiscal 2027 budget. Damascus High School parent Ashley Vespoli (asked if the county executive would fight for increased funding) and others urged officials to boost the debt limit, while county officer Rich Madaleno (explained the budget process) advised them to work with the school board and Council.  MoCo360
  • The Board of Public Works approved the renaming of the Howard Heritage Trail at the soon-to-open Freedman’s State Historical Park to honor Enoch George Howard’s contributions—his work helped form a freed Black community in Montgomery County. Gov. Wes Moore chaired the meeting and expressed gratitude for this tribute.  WJLA
