- ➤ Novavax will turn over its 170,000-square-foot facility lease in Gaithersburg and sell a 9.7-acre parking lot and two parcels to AstraZeneca as it shifts away from manufacturing, while two downtown Silver Spring restaurants celebrate long anniversaries and a former federal worker-led nonprofit will set up weekly food banks during the government shutdown. - ➤ Celeste Iroha dropped out of the County Executive race last week because of health and housing challenges after filing her candidacy in March. The health worker — who had a growth on her vocal cords after surgery — endorsed Council Vice President Will Jawando. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ Maryland Gov. Wes Moore visited a new Montgomery County job center for displaced federal workers on Thursday and met with staff and former employees who found new work while the center has helped about 300 people since early October—federal workers have also applied for interest-free loans and unemployment insurance amid federal job cuts. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools is holding additional public hearings and work sessions for the FY 2027 Capital Budget and FY 2027-2032 Capital Improvements Program that requests $2.7 billion over six years yet covers only half the facilities' needs. After a hearing held on Oct. 23, the board will meet on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. and on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m., with another session planned for Nov. 11 if needed. Montgomery County Public Schools
