EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS is investigating a senior class T-shirt with a racial slur that was given out at Sherwood High in Sandy Spring on October 17—officials have asked students to return the shirts and will provide new ones along with counseling and listening circles. The investigation will review how the design was approved and examine similar past incidents at the school.  MoCo360
  • Jennifer Seidel, principal of Greenwood Elementary School, celebrated National Principals Month during a Q&A on October 17, sharing how working with students, staff, and families inspires her each day. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Organizers plan No Kings protests across Montgomery County today— a rally in North Bethesda is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rockville Pike and Tuckerman Lane. About 1,200 people including state officials will join—other protests will address federal shutdown impacts and cuts to medical research near NIH.  MoCo360

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Jennifer Gourdin, a sports medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente in Silver Spring, said that staying active with walking, stretching and core exercises can ease chronic low back pain and prevent disability. Research from the NIH and a recent study in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy shows that regular movement reduces stiffness and may lower pain recurrence—experts advise those with desk jobs to stand and stretch every 30 minutes.  WTOP
