ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Montgomery County community rallied to set up a Go Fund Me page for a person hit and killed by a school bus last week—raising $70,000.  WUSA9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Silver Diner’s executive chef Ype Von Hengst described his journey from the Netherlands to Rockville, where he helped shape the diner's strong reputation since it opened in 1989 — as many fans stop by during his lunch shifts to greet him.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County is investing $10 million in early childhood education to boost childcare options in Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Aspen Hill—this plan provides over $6 million in Head Start funds and a $4 million Facility Loan Program to help providers serve children from birth to five. Early Head Start applications will open on Nov. 1, and a new Shared Resources Collaborative will help lower costs for childcare supplies.  WJLA
  • On October 13, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas W. Taylor previewed the FY27 Capital Budget and Capital Improvements Program, showing that many school buildings need repair and modern updates. Board of Education hearings are scheduled for Oct 23, Oct 28 and Nov 6, and CIP Community Information and Listening Sessions will be held October 21 (in-person) and October 22 (virtual) for public feedback.  Montgomery County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Work began last month to restore the Thurgood Marshall memorial in Lawyers Mall but was halted when problems arose with the securing compound for the columns—state officials said work will resume once the issues are fixed and could be finished within a month if weather holds.  WTOP

SPORTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County high school football games showed the Quince Orchard Cougars remain unbeaten after a 35-28 win over Sherwood as they prepare to play in Clarksburg on Thursday. Other matchups saw Churchill win 51-7 on the road, Bethesda-Chevy Chase win 28-21 at home, and Paint Branch and Blake record strong wins.  MoCo360
