  • Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center said Friday that pet surrenders increased as families struggled with job loss and financial hardship, so it has expanded its support services.   • Bus driver Tilwanna Gollman Stevenson—Montgomery County Ride On operator—noticed a woman with dementia who was not a regular on her Germantown route and quickly acted when a countywide alert was issued to find her; her swift steps helped reunite the missing woman with her family on Monday night.  MoCo360

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County Public Schools canceled Walk to School Day after a teen was struck and killed—officials stated the decision gives the district time to review safety measures—and the community faces the tragic loss.  WUSA9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Schools Superintendent Thomas Taylor told county councilmembers that he and his staff are working to cut a backlog of criminal background checks—involving 12,000 outdated and 4,900 missing records—by December, while councilmembers pressed for systemwide changes to prevent future failures.  WJLA
  • Advocates for students said MCPS needs to explain how the new code of conduct will protect Black and Latino students (the rules now include harsher punishments for offenses like bomb threats and theft).   • On September 26, 2025, Operation Warm partnered with Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc. to deliver nearly 400 new coats to every student at Kemp Mill Elementary School, showing care and support for the community. HEALTH NEWS

  • Maryland music teacher Emma G underwent 10 brain surgeries by age 12 for hydrocephalus—completing 24 procedures in total—and now uses music to record memories and help young people manage anxious feelings across the DMV.  WJLA

  • Rockville got two new places for European dining when Ayşe Meze Lounge opened at 700 King Farm Blvd and Petit Délice, a French bakery, started near Town Center. Nezih Pistar moved his restaurant from Frederick to bring small plates from Mediterranean countries while Nicolas Dreyer offers French pastries and pretzel sandwiches.  MoCo360

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • EYA and Bernstein Management Corp. announced they acquired a 13.7-acre Rockville site with two vacant office buildings and a parcel to be redeveloped into a walkable townhome community—over 200 townhomes are planned as the office buildings will be demolished in early 2028 and sales are expected to begin in late 2028.  MoCo360

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hulu and YouTube TV are negotiating with Monumental Sports Network to keep live Capitals, Wizards and Mystics games available as their contracts expire before new season games starting in early October.
