- ➤ The National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund granted $1.5 million to upgrade two parks—Gunner’s Lake Park in Germantown will receive a new pavilion, playground, athletic fields, a walking track, and fitness area while Rockville City plans to redevelop its former golf course at RedGate Park with new paths, benches, picnic tables, and educational signs. - ➤ County leaders canceled the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival planned for next month at Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton because safety concerns from increased federal immigration enforcement prompted a shift in funding — with County Executive Marc Elrich saying funds will be redirected to school-based events. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County government and police announced Tuesday that starting Oct. 1 a new state law will replace the flat $40 speed camera fine with a graduated schedule and add 216 automated cameras — 140 for speeding and 76 for red light violations — to support the Vision Zero initiative. Officials said the cameras will be placed in high-risk areas even as critics claim the program is a money grab and question who benefits from the extra fine revenue. MoCo360
- ➤ Today the Montgomery County Board of Elections raised red flags about the US Postal Service—raising concerns that mail service issues could impact voter participation. The board stated it will keep a close watch on the situation as election activities move forward. WUSA9
