- ➤ Elizabeth Scott, the Toys for Tots Montgomery County coordinator, said the donated warehouse is now rented — she needs a new 8,000–10,000 square-foot space with utilities in Gaithersburg by Oct. 1 or the program may be canceled, affecting plans to distribute between 100,000 and 200,000 toys this winter. - ➤ Officials and business owners said that disruptions from Purple Line work continue to hurt small shops as road closures affect access along Sligo Creek Parkway. The project will finish in summer 2027—while a third round of grants will start on October 6—and local residents remain frustrated by the delays. FOX 5 DC
- ➤ Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, a Michelin Guide-recognized restaurant, will open on Sept 29 at Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda — it is one of five new eateries coming to the mall this year. MoCo360

- ➤ Maryland lost 2,500 federal jobs in August—bringing the total lost to 15,100 since January and cutting nearly 10% of federal positions in the state. Jake Pannell of the National Federation of Federal Employees said many former workers are leaving and warned that more cuts in September will force some to take lower-paying roles or retrain for new jobs. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools began deep cleaning its Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville Monday—mold and air quality issues spurred the effort—and union leaders will protest at Thursday's school board meeting to demand safer working conditions. MoCo360
- ➤ Parents in Montgomery County are worried about mold in their schools—photos show mold on furniture and ceiling tiles at Goshen Elementary in Gaithersburg. Montgomery County Public Schools cleaned the mold spots and is checking air quality while planning work to fix problems with HVAC systems so children stay safe. WJLA

- ➤ Six varsity high school football teams remain undefeated after three weeks as Quince Orchard won 20-0 over Stonebridge in Gaithersburg, Blake defeated Springbrook 61-7 in Silver Spring, Sherwood beat Rockville 49-0, Northwest won 28-14 in Bethesda-Chevy Chase, and Churchill won 28-6 while Good Counsel lost 24-0 in Pennsylvania. The Blake game also saw a fight that led police to fire non-lethal pepper-ball rounds—an action that quickly dispersed the crowd. MoCo360
