GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sligo Creek Parkway is closing today between Piney Branch Road and Wayne Avenue for about two months for the Purple Line light rail project—detours will guide both vehicles and pedestrians while the Sligo Creek Trail stays open. WJLA
- ➤ Residents in Montgomery County oppose a zoning amendment sponsored by Councilmember Dawn Luedtke that would let wireless companies quickly relocate cell towers for up to two years if repairs are needed—residents worry about towers up to 200 feet being placed near schools and homes without proper notice. The proposal includes a 90-day review process and will be discussed at a committee session on October 6 at 1:30 p.m. WJLA

- ➤ Fans gathered at Northwest Stadium for tailgating as the Commanders prepared to face the Raiders without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels—who missed the game with a knee injury—with veteran Marcus Mariota stepping in, and many expressed confidence in the team's chances. WUSA9

- ➤ On Sunday, Washington beat the Raiders 41-24 with a reconfigured offense led by Marcus Mariota—who made his first NFL start since 2022, threw for 206 yards, and scored a rushing touchdown on the opening drive.
