  • After carpal tunnel slowed her work in cosmetology, Nikia Montgomery started Kocktail Kakes to make vegan rum cakes that quickly won over local customers with one popular flavor. She will introduce spiced cranberry rum for Thanksgiving and gingerbread rum for Christmas while planning to expand her business—by joining more farmer’s markets and offering internships to local students.  WUSA9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County Executive Marc Elrich said on Monday that Montgomery County’s MPDU program needs changes and he will introduce legislation to broaden eligibility for households earning between 65% and 75% of the area median income—remarks made at a District 18 Breakfast Club meeting.  MoCo360
  • The Montgomery County Council meets today at 9 a.m. at the Stella Werner Council Office Building in Rockville to review the unanimously approved University Boulevard Corridor Plan and to hold a public hearing for a bill that would create a community choice aggregator— a group that purchases electricity on behalf of local residents and small businesses.  MoCo360
