- ➤ Erica Hopper, a Washington, D.C. woman, was charged with theft after she allegedly stole over $266K from her 95-year-old grandfather—money spent on cosmetic surgeries, luxury items, rent and car payments—while holding power of attorney, and she will return to court on Oct. 14. MoCo360
- ➤ Police arrested Luis Antonio Quintanilla in Irving + he is charged with first-degree murder after fatally shooting his partner at their Gaithersburg home early Sunday and now awaits extradition to Maryland. MoCo360
- ➤ Detectives from Montgomery’s Financial Crimes Unit arrested Erica Hopper, 45, on August 27 after an investigation found she exploited her 95-year-old grandfather’s finances by making unauthorized purchases totaling over $266,000 from November 2021 until at least June — she now faces charges of theft and fraud and has been released on personal bond. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools set immunization requirements for students in grades K, 7, and 9 as well as for new students posted on September 2 — families should review the details before the school term begins. Montgomery County Public Schools
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools introduced new emergency protocols for this school year — including secure, hold, lockdown, evacuate and shelter statuses to address different threats. - ➤ Nearly 1,000 state employees applied for a voluntary separation program that offers $20,000 plus $300 for each year of service and six months of paid state health benefits to reduce personnel expenses.
