  • Montgomery County police charged 35-year-old Joseph Gordon with attempted first-degree murder after a July 28 shooting on Lockwood Drive near the White Oak Shopping Center injured a man who was taken to hospital.  MoCo360

  • Montgomery County continues to award MOVE grants to help companies sign new leases or expand office space—this effort aims to curb the rising office vacancy rate, which reached 18.73% on August 14 compared to 18.2% in the first quarter.   • Montgomery County Public Schools will closely watch student attendance this school year as fears of ICE raids persist, with Superintendent Taylor noting a steady trend and a drop in chronic absences.   • Montgomery County Public Schools installed vape detection systems in all high school bathrooms—devices that detect emissions from nicotine and THC to enforce bans on vaping, tobacco and illegal drugs.   • Montgomery County Public Schools has launched a refrigerator curriculum that sends families a magnet and digital copy of upcoming lesson topics every nine weeks—offering parents a form to opt their children out if a lesson conflicts with their religious beliefs.   • Maryland state data shows 30 people have died this summer from heat-related illness with 24 of those victims being over 65—officials say caregivers should check on elderly neighbors as the heat season continues.
