  • Bethesda-based Collars & Co.—a winner of a $1 million Shark Tank investment in 2023 that makes patent-pending dress shirts—will open a temporary pop-up store in Rockville at 1643 Rockville Pike in Congressional Plaza in October. The store will offer selfie spots with a classic Porsche and a replica private plane.  WTOP
  • Neighbors Coffee, a locally owned small-batch coffee shop that roasts its own beans, opened its first brick-and-mortar location last Wednesday at Woodley Gardens on 1101 Nelson St.—the shop offers coffee, matcha drinks, pastries from Fresh Baguette and plans to convert its drive-thru window into a walk-up service with a future patio space for community events.  MoCo360

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County police said a man was hospitalized early Friday morning on the 12400 block of Georgia Avenue after a hit-and-run — his injuries were non-life-threatening — and the driver left the scene, with the investigation ongoing.  WJLA
  • The Maryland Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a Silver Spring man linked to gang symbol graffiti because prosecutors did not show he led a gang, and a Laurel man charged in connection with the 1995 death of a police officer was held on $1M bail on Aug.5.   • Starting Sunday, Aug. 17, the bus loop at Medical Center Metro Station in Bethesda will close on select Sundays through spring for MetroRail construction—Ride On Routes 34 and 46 will board at Bus Bay H or Bus Bay G on affected days. The closures run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 17, Oct. 12, Dec. 14, Dec. 28 and March 1, and the County’s zero-fare policy remains in effect.  Montgomery Community Media
  • The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will host the free Ready Montgomery fair on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Wheaton Regional Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair will offer CPR training, AED use, emergency preparedness talks + public safety resource tables along with face painting and lawn games.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Ray Biggs II said the Spring Street Bridge in Silver Spring will reopen by the end of this year after work to repair a damaged storm sewer delayed construction, and he added that WMATA is connecting an underground station to the Purple Line in Bethesda (projected opening in 2027) as testing continues for safety and coordination with utility companies.
