  • A motorcyclist riding a black Triumph was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 6:17 p.m. on Saturday near the 22000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Brookville — the driver of a silver 2013 BMW 128i was not injured as police investigate and close the road between Sapling Ridge Lane and Georgia Avenue.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Dr. Richard Akoto, a Takoma Park family doctor, was charged with Medicare fraud after submitting false claims for pain treatments using a P-stim device—which provides electrical acupuncture not covered by Medicare—between January and May 2019, resulting in a $1.4 million judgment from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Police are seeking the public's help in finding a 28-year-old man accused of stabbing another man outside a Wheaton restaurant at 3:20 a.m. Saturday near Fern Street and University Boulevard West; the victim was hospitalized in critical condition and surveillance video shows the thin suspect (with short black hair, a goatee, an ear piercing, tattoos on both arms, and last seen in a white Nicaragua baseball jersey numbered 16, a royal blue cap, black shorts and white Jordan sneakers).  WUSA9

  • Anna Wilson, a 21-year-old singer from Gaithersburg, was surprised when her mother brought her to an unplanned America’s Got Talent audition in March—she received three out of four yes votes yet will not move on to the live rounds. Wilson’s audition video has gained 5.7 million views and she now plans to release original music while helping veterans and people with disabilities.  MoCo360

  • Maryland’s annual Tax-Free Week began on Sunday, Aug. 10 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 16—waiving the state’s 6% sales tax on clothing under $100 and on the first $40 of backpacks for both in-store and online orders.
