CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Community Media Lab's Education and Community Engagement team offers a new podcast + media projects that support local artists and creative storytellers. The team also hosts classes and community events and runs a blog to help residents share their work and connect with local arts initiatives. Montgomery Community Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School districts in the DC region will open fall classes on dates from Aug. 12 to Aug. 26 and will enforce new rules on cell phone use, school safety, and grading. Officials say these changes (including new apps for tracking buses and tougher safety measures) are meant to help students stay focused and safe during the school day. WTOP
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools plan to change academic and career readiness programs by shifting from a countywide magnet model to a six-region model that will add in-demand programs in Medical Science, STEM, and Leadership. If approved in December or January, the changes will begin for rising 7th graders and move toward full implementation by 2031—community engagement events will provide more detailed information for families.
