  • The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will take place from August 8th to 16th at 501 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg—parking costs $20 per car and free shuttles run from Montgomery College campuses.   • Camp Greentree is a new six-week summer camp that will offer fun activities plus mental health support to 88 children experiencing homelessness referred by MCPS.   • A deadly crash on Sandy Spring Road in Montgomery County shut down westbound lanes at McKnew Road early Wednesday morning (3:20 a.m. call showed all vehicles remained at the scene).  WJLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County Police arrested Amir Jalil Ali, 62, in Laurel on Tuesday for the first degree murder of Denna Fredericka Campbell—his ex-girlfriend and D.C. police officer killed in 1995—after a review of old evidence led to new charges.  WUSA9
  • Montgomery County officials charged former boyfriend Kenneth Burnell Wonsom—also known as Amir Jalil Ali—with first-degree murder in the 1995 killing of D.C. officer Denna Fredericka Campbell after her body was found in her Silver Spring home, and authorities released more details at a Wednesday news conference in Gaithersburg.  FOX 5 DC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maryland will begin Tax-Free Week on Sunday when select items will be exempt from the 6% sales tax—clothing under $100, the first $40 on backpacks and Energy Star products such as air conditioners, washers, dryers and dehumidifiers will be tax free.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BioHub Maryland in Rockville is hosting a week-long program that trains Bowie State students in biopharmaceutical manufacturing skills like upstream processing and quality control—students earn certificates recognized by local employers. The program builds on three successful summer cohorts and sees its final six-student group begin training on Monday.  MoCo360
  • School Board President Julie Yang said the board will hold Superintendent Taylor accountable after an OIG report found over 12,000 MCPS employees were not added to the FBI’s Rap Back list and nearly 4,900 did not get Child Protective Services checks—problems that have raised safety concerns.   • Montgomery County Council approved a zoning amendment that allows duplexes, triplexes, townhouses and apartments along transit corridors and major roads.
