CRIME NEWS

  • On July 22, a Gaithersburg seller met a buyer through Facebook Marketplace when two teenagers with a handgun forced him to drop the keys to his BMW—three men (Kendric Rock, Julian Chase Rose, and Prince Chukang) were arrested shortly after, and police recovered a gun and ammunition as they charged the suspects with attempted carjacking and firearm offenses.  WJLA
  • On Tuesday, July 29, Montgomery County Police arrested three men for an attempted carjacking after an online sale when 18-year-old Julian Chase Rose from Beltsville and 19-year-old Prince Chukang from Silver Spring threatened a Gaithersburg seller with a handgun and 20-year-old Kendric Rock from Silver Spring fled in a stolen Infiniti Q50—officers recovered firearms and ammunition from the suspects.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Education Association filed a grievance against MCPS on Monday after summer employees did not get paid on time because of problems with a new payroll system—85 employees were unpaid and hundreds experienced leave issues, and MCPS said the affected workers will be paid Wednesday.  MoCo360

  • On July 21, Rockville City Council voted 5-2 against rent control, and many local residents voiced their concerns over rising rents. Some council members defended their decision—citing a forecasted housing revenue drop—while tenant advocates worry about future affordability.  WJLA
  • Andrea Geller, a Rockville woman with developmental disabilities, was laid off from her NIH mailroom job after 31 years and now faces uncertainty about finding work that fits her needs — her mother helps cover her expenses while she joins programs to build new skills.
