ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, an abnormal storm in Montgomery County raised Sligo Creek to its highest level in 20 years and triggered nearly 100 emergency calls—prompting dozens of water rescues and assisting stranded motorists while causing road closures through Takoma Park and Silver Spring—and no serious injuries were reported.  Montgomery Community Media

  • On Friday evening, Montgomery County Police said a local man from Frederick died after an SUV hit him while he was crossing Columbia Pike at Tech Road in the Fairland-White Oak area — the victim was identified as 52-year-old Yaovi Magloire Guedoh and the case is under investigation.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Metro is holding an invitation-only hiring event for bus mechanics that will start in August—offering a $7000 signing bonus along with benefits such as free Metrorail and Metrobus transportation. Applicants must complete an online application by 11:59 p.m. on July 29.  WJLA
  • Today, Montgomery County Council will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the Stella Werner Council Office Building to hear community input on a zoning change that would allow water cremation, discuss a ban on invasive running bamboo, and get an update on plans for more sustainable solid waste disposal—efforts that could affect local funeral services and waste practices.  MoCo360
  • A report to the County Council’s Public Safety Committee showed that police detentions went up by more than 25% in 2024 while patrol staffing dropped nearly 24%—raising worries about overtime and recruitment.
