  • A woman was caught on video vandalizing a Tesla in the Walter Johnson High School parking lot in Bethesda — police are seeking leads on the incident.   • A Rockville man was arrested after a 15-year-old girl reported he filmed her in a mall dressing room at Westfield Montgomery on April 17—police later found his phone held child sexual abuse material and videos allegedly showing him engaging in sexual activity with a small dog, and he now faces further charges.  WTOP

CULTURE NEWS

  • Late last week, officials celebrated the restoration of a 194-year-old wall along the C&O Canal towpath in Montgomery County—this project cost just over $11 million and was funded mainly by the GAOA Legacy Restoration Fund to improve safety for hikers and bikers.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A teacher from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (Daniel Engler) filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Circuit Court alleging he was falsely accused of racism after an incident on Feb. 8. The trial began Monday in Rockville and will continue this week with witness testimony as his lawyer argues that the false report harmed his reputation and career.  MoCo360

  • Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart introduced a bill Tuesday, July 15 to stabilize energy costs & offer more renewable energy options through Community Choice Aggregation. The legislation builds on a 2021 pilot program and sets a community hearing for Sept. 9.  Montgomery Community Media
  • On Tuesday, Montgomery County Councilmembers unanimously passed a law to crack down on unlicensed commercial house parties that charge a fee and use residential homes as party venues. The new law raises fines up to $5,000 — exempting personal and nonprofit events — and Councilmembers Luedtke and Friedson will hold a press conference on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council passed a bill giving preference to displaced federal workers applying for county jobs if they lost federal positions on or after January 1 and can show a lost income—County Executive Marc Elrich will sign it immediately, and it will run for one year. Council Vice President Will Jawando and others supported the measure to ease hiring amid widespread federal job losses.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass earned endorsements from former Rep. David Trone and ex-Labor Secretary Tom Perez as he competes to replace County Executive Marc Elrich—Glass runs alongside councilmembers Andrew Friedson and Will Jawando, whose union support highlights the competitive race. The County Council is expected to approve 14 early voting sites on Tuesday for the 2026 elections—sites include locations in Rockville and Potomac.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County council voted Tuesday that veterans and people with disabilities will receive first preference in hiring for county jobs—displaced federal workers will then move to the interview stage if the position remains open.
