CULTURE NEWS

  • The Strathmore announced its free summer concert series 'Live from the Lawn,' which kicks off today with reggae Beatles covers by Yellow Dubmarine—opening at 7:00 p.m.—and will include family-friendly concerts with diverse musical acts through August 20th at The Gudelsky Gazebo.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County Board of Elections officials approved 14 early voting sites for the 2026 primary election from June 11 to 18, which lets voters use familiar spots like the Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center in Rockville. The sites still need approval from the State Board of Elections—continuing the county’s reliable voting service from previous cycles.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Montgomery County Councilmembers will vote on July 15 on creating a new 300-acre development district in White Oak near the FDA headquarters and Adventist Hospital to attract private investment for housing, retail and commercial projects. County Executive Marc Elrich said the plan is expected to generate over 17,000 construction jobs, 9,000 permanent jobs and $62 million in annual revenue while using Tax Increment Financing — though critics say it may mainly boost temporary construction employment.  Montgomery Community Media
  • The County Council Public Safety Committee said Monday it supports the police department’s final phase of encrypting radio transmissions to block criminals from accessing sensitive calls — officials said records remain available through Maryland Public Information Act requests. The department reprogrammed nearly all portable radios and is now focusing on encrypting vehicle channels while updates to other districts are pending.  MoCo360
