- ➤ An 80-year-old man named Vivian Nation was charged with first-degree murder after he stabbed his 78-year-old wife several times at their Leisure World apartment on Saturday after 6 p.m.—police said a bond hearing is set for 1 p.m. Monday. WUSA9

- ➤ The Timberlawn property at 5700 Sugarbush Lane in Rockville cleared its first hurdles for historic designation and awaits a county council vote later this year—support comes from the Historic Preservation Commission and planning board. Built in 1901, it is the site where Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a 1962 summer camp for children with intellectual disabilities that later inspired the first International Special Olympics Summer Games. - ➤ The recovery efforts for bald eagles in the Chesapeake Bay raised their numbers from 62 breeding pairs in 1985 to over 1,400 today, and the state DNR says the bay now has one of the largest populations in the nation—thanks to the ban on DDT and protections for nest sites under the Chesapeake Bay Protection Act.
