Good morning, Rockville.

After years of negotiations, owners Chuck and Stacey Kuhn agreed to donate operation of White’s Ferry to Montgomery County as a $1.3 million gift; county confirmation is pending.

The Revenue Authority will manage the ferry (pending confirmation) with potential involvement from Loudoun County.

Metro is painting 6,000 ft of tracks white to lower rail temperatures by 6-8° during the heat wave as mechanics ride trains, check temperatures, and enforce 35 mph speed restrictions when rails hit 135°F to keep service safe.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich advised residents to drink 8 ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes + about a quart every hour + to stay safe during the record heat while warning against chugging water and mixing alcohol with outdoor activities.

Paramedics responded at 4:05 p.m. Friday, July 3 at Sycamore Island near Glen Echo when a man suffered heat-related illness — his condition was not severe and he received timely care amid ongoing extreme heat warnings.
