Good morning, Rockville.

Officials and community members gathered Thursday morning along Talbot Avenue Bridge in Lyttonsville to unveil a plaque honoring Charlotte Coffield, a local activist + first sign-language interpreter in government.

Parts of the old bridge will be reused in a new park as the Purple Line project nears completion.

Bethesda Magazine and Bethesda Urban Partnership sponsored the 2026 Short Story and Essay Contest for local writers, awarding cash prizes ($50 to $500) in multiple categories.

Winners, including Rockville's Aniko Albert who took second in adult short stories, were honored at a ceremony held in Bethesda in March.

Student journalists at Richard Montgomery High in Rockville expressed concern over a March memo + a policy review requirement for student publications and are planning a formal complaint after signing an open letter, while MCPS Superintendent Taylor maintained that the review is legal and meant to guide student learning.

Students at Thomas Edison and Seneca Valley high schools built a home to show their construction skills through MCPS’s trades program.

The 44th Student Built House Video (by the Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation) highlights hands-on learning.
