  • After 10 months of construction, Rockville Swim and Fitness Center’s outdoor pools will re-open Monday with new features such as two 26-foot-tall water slides, a shallow-water playground and floating lily pads. The project received nearly $6 million in funding over 2024 and 2025 — the pools will remain open until Labor Day while the outdoor fitness pool stays open into October.  MoCo360
  • On June 28, Gaithersburg’s Bohrer Park will host SummerFest with live music, food trucks, and family activities — the free event sponsored by Amazon Fresh, Patient First, Chick-fil-A and the Maryland State Arts Council will feature fireworks at 9:20 p.m. and an afterparty.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Rockville Town Square will host a local meetup for Pokémon GO Fest on June 28 and 29 where local gamers can join for free from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.—the event is organized by the Campfire app group for trainers and lets players unlock special bonuses with tickets from the game’s website.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Today, Montgomery County offers diverse events including a Magical Mayhem Circus in Kensington, Friday Night Salsa in North Bethesda, and a DJ concert in Wheaton — on Saturday, Rockville hosts a Neighborhood Safety Day and Boyds offers a Nature Hunt, and on Sunday Silver Spring holds Pride in the Plaza with additional heritage and community festivals across the county.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Montgomery County laws will take effect in July, raising minimum wages starting July 1—$17.65 for large businesses, $16 for mid-sized and $15.50 for small businesses—and banning gas-powered leaf blowers while new tenant protections allow renters to sue landlords for unresolved maintenance issues starting July 14. County officials say the changes aim to adjust for rising living costs and to better protect workers and tenants.  Montgomery Community Media
