  • Foster animals at the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center in Derwood needed emergency foster homes after an A/C outage amid intense heat, officials said. The shelter remained open past 7:30 a.m. Monday to help rehome pets while repairs were underway.  WJLA
  • Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring is opening its dining hall as a cooling center for up to 80 vulnerable residents — including people experiencing homelessness— to help them beat the heat during the ongoing heatwave.   • An Ellicott City woman, Shanming Wei, died weeks after she was hit by a white 2020 Ford F150 in a Rockville parking lot when the driver lost control while reversing—police say the truck also struck another pedestrian and two parked cars.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County police are warning residents not to trust anyone who claims your ATM card is faulty and offers to pick it up at your home—scammers use this tactic to obtain your PIN and steal money.  WTOP

  • Montgomery County leaders are debating zoning changes to allow multifamily homes in single-family areas as a way to help middle-income families stay in the community—residents worry that the plan could lead to overcrowded roads, schools, and displacement. Councilman Friedson said the proposal includes safeguards, but opponents remain concerned about its effects.  WUSA9
  • WMATA began major service changes on June 22 by extending weekend rail hours and boosting train frequency, and today riders are adjusting to new schedules as Red Line trains run every four minutes during rush hours; the transit system will launch a full Metrobus redesign on June 29 + the overhaul will simplify routes and cut over 500 stops.  FOX 5 DC
