  • MudFest, the local celebration of International Mud Day, will take place tomorrow at Woodstock Equestrian Special Park in Beallsville where the grassy lawn transforms into a giant mud pit with features such as a mud volcano, mud kitchens, and mud slides—ideal for family fun. Visitors will pay $20 per vehicle and can use hose-off stations and changing tents to clean up.  MoCo360
  • Local Black-owned businesses gathered Tuesday at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville to showcase their products and services. The expo, now in its second year, featured tables of exhibitors including Black-led nonprofits + other local ventures.  Montgomery Community Media

CRIME NEWS

  • Rockville City police investigated a shooting on Thursday night on North Washington Street near the new Trader Joe’s grocery store when officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds who was taken to a hospital in stable condition (two suspects are in custody and a section of the street remains closed as the investigation continues).  MoCo360
  • Two men—Alvin Chun, 64, and Ronald Wesley Johnson, 62—were detained by Montgomery County police in Kensington after a series of armed bank robberies on February 1st and March 18th, with Chun facing charges including first-degree assault, three counts of armed robbery, conspiracy and firearm use in a violent crime while Johnson is held on similar charges and is linked to other investigations.  Montgomery Community Media
  • COG’s new crime dashboard showed that crime across 24 jurisdictions fell 13% in the first four months compared to last year—Montgomery County reported one homicide and fewer car thefts in May.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Rockville City Police went to the 600 block of Blandford Street at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday after a shooting left an adult male in critical condition; they arrested 17-year-old Octavia Brewster and charged her with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, armed robbery, reckless endangerment and firearms violations+detectives recovered a ghost gun and other evidence from the scene.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Thurgood Marshall Elementary, teacher Amy Digiovanni led her fourth grade class in letter-writing projects that connected them with professional sports teams and published author Phyllis Reynolds Naylor—who joined via Zoom and sent writing tips typed on a typewriter. The students exceeded their 'Strive for 25' goal by receiving 58 replies and celebrated with football games and trivia to spark a lasting love for writing.  Montgomery County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County officials said they will work with protest organizers to ensure demonstrations follow rules such as not blocking traffic or public walkways and not using amplified noise. Police Chief Marc Yamada said police will give warnings if protests threaten safety—upholding the right to protest while protecting community order.  WTOP
