ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County police identified Scott Adkins, 30, of Germantown as the man who died Wednesday morning when his Ford Fusion collided with a Kenworth semi-trailer at the intersection of Darnestown and Cattail roads near farms—responders arrived around 11:30 a.m. and one passenger suffered critical but non-life-threatening injuries while the truck driver remained uninjured.  MoCo360

  • Trader Joe’s will open its new 10,000-square-foot store on June 12 at 225 N. Washington St.—it replaces Dawson’s Market and becomes the third Trader Joe’s in Rockville. The chain is growing in the D.C. area after opening a store in Brookland and planning one in Friendship Heights.  WTOP

CRIME NEWS

  • O’Shea Hunter, 23, was arrested in Silver Spring and is held without bond after he allegedly stabbed his mother’s boyfriend at their White Oak home on June 4, and he faces charges of first- and second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment—he will return to a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. on June 27.  MoCo360
  • On Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., an armed man allegedly assaulted a 7-Eleven employee in Gaithersburg after being told soda was not free, threw items from nearby shelves, and threatened staff with a handgun before fleeing toward White Flint Metro Station.  WJLA

  • A Richard Montgomery High School junior, Katherine Xue, will study language in South Korea this summer on a U.S. Department of State scholarship. She will take classes at SUNY Korea in Songdo five days a week + live with a host family while enjoying cultural activities like temple stays and K-pop dance classes.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Councilmember Andrew Friedson said in a meeting in Bethesda on June 6 that county rent control policies hurt housing development + he criticized colleague Will Jawando’s remarks from the Rockville Rent Stabilization Community Forum. Local business people and a developer also warned that the restrictions are pushing investors away + they stressed the need for policies that boost local housing growth.  MoCo360
  • Maryland’s Public Service Commission issued orders Friday to ease rising electricity bills that began on June 1—requiring Baltimore Gas and Electric to spread supply costs over seasons and approving Delmarva Power’s plan to return over $800,000 to customers starting July 1—and customers in the Pepco area are expected to face a $14 monthly increase.  WUSA9
