ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews rescued a horse after its leg fell through a wooden pedestrian bridge at Patuxent River State Park near Brookville on Sunday afternoon — the horse sustained soft tissue injuries but could stand after sedation.  FOX 5 DC
  • A horse trapped on a pedestrian bridge at Patuxent River State Park was rescued Sunday after firefighters, rescue technicians and a veterinarian cut away part of the wooden decking near the 23200 block of Georgia Avenue to free its leg and the animal sustained soft-tissue damage but could walk normally.  WJLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Capital Pride Alliance will kick off celebrations with the Audacity Brunch: In Full Fuchsia at the Four Seasons on Sunday, June 7, followed by a Pride parade on Saturday, June 20, and a festival with a concert on Sunday, June 21 — events that showcase community resilience and invite local participation.  WTOP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of D.C.-area middle schoolers showcased their inventions at Bethesda's KID Museum on Sunday during the Invent the Future Expo. The projects—including a trash-clearing drone and a mobile homeless shelter—were developed over a semester by students from Montgomery County Public Schools to address environmental and social challenges.  WTOP
  • Fourteen Maryland high school seniors were named semifinalists for the U.S. Presidential Scholars program. The group includes 13 public-school students and one from a private school (from Montgomery, Howard, and other local counties) and the finalists will be announced later this year.  WTOP
