EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thomas W. Pyle Middle School welcomed Jane Pyle Harriss, daughter of its namesake, who visited for the first time to explore the school’s history. The 97-year-old guest walked the halls, saw a handcrafted table (built by her father), and engaged with staff during her visit. Montgomery County Public Schools
- ➤ MCPS released the 2026 graduation schedule after moving all ceremonies to UMBC following feedback from families and staff. The schedule includes past events on May 28 and upcoming ceremonies on May 29 and in June at several high schools, including Rockville HS. WUSA9
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools is delaying construction at several elementary schools due to a $36 million gap in capital improvement spending. Projects at Burning Tree, Cold Spring, Highland View and Piney Branch will be delayed three years while some high school projects remain on schedule and a board vote on staffing cuts is expected June 4. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools students built a $799K home on O’Fallon St. in Silver Spring over the past two years, with 600 high schoolers participating in a long-running nonprofit program (the project’s 44th student-designed house was unveiled Tuesday) that will soon be on the market. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maryland now requires advance reservations for day trips to seven state parks through Labor Day after reservations returned Memorial Day weekend. Visitors planning to visit parks like Greenbrier and North Point must book ahead to ensure entry. Montgomery Community Media

- ➤ Metro launched its Fares Pay for Service campaign Thursday, May 28 to cut fare evasion that cost $50 million and to support bus operators & better service by encouraging riders to pay the $2.25 fare with its Tap. - ➤ Governor Wes Moore asked the USDA to give disaster help after an early April freeze hurt orchards and vineyards around here. The letter said some crops lost nearly all fruit and wine sales may fall by $24.4 million, meaning farmers could need federal loans to keep working next season. MoCo360
