CRIME NEWS

  • Rockville man Joshua Johnson, 43, was arrested Thursday after he allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at another driver during a road rage incident on I-270—he faces charges for first- and second-degree assault and use of a firearm with bail set at $10,000 at the Montgomery County Detention Center.  MoCo360
  • Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown warned that scammers are using call spoofing to impersonate animal shelters and claim they have found injured pets to trick owners into paying for fake treatment — one victim lost $2,600 transferring money via apps — officials advise verifying calls by contacting shelters directly.  WUSA9
  • Montgomery County Police said a 31-year-old man was stabbed and later died on Thursday when officers responded at 10:28 p.m. on the 11400 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring — the Major Crimes Division is investigating and family notifications are pending.  WJLA

  • Bethesda artist Charles Lenny Lunn, who uses a letter board to communicate because he has Phelan—McDermid syndrome, opens his first solo exhibit today at a Washington, D.C. gallery displaying his abstract paintings and poetry. The exhibit runs through June 8.  MoCo360

  • Gov. Wes Moore vetoed the Reparations Commission bill that would have studied historic inequality suffered by African descendants as part of 23 bills he rejected on Friday—lawmakers expressed disappointment and plan to discuss veto overrides in coming days. The decision has fueled anger among some advocates who believe the study could have led to policy changes addressing historical racial disparities.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County Council held a straw vote on a $7.6B budget plan that gives $3.6B for education and more funds for public safety— the council used money from a retiree benefit trust to avoid raising taxes, and a final vote will take place on May 22 with the plan in effect on July 1.  WTOP
