EDUCATION NEWS

  • Galway Elementary hosted a gala for fifth grade girls to celebrate STEM learning with over 100 students, featuring social hour, dinner, live music, STEM remarks by teacher Maria Mauras and a keynote from chemist Dr. Kameron J.   • The Child Care Scholarship program in Maryland will reopen this summer after the Department of Education froze funding last year, offering families a renewed chance for affordable care.  WUSA9
  • On Tuesday, May 12, the Hispanic Alliance for Education honored 27 high school seniors for academic excellence, leadership, and community service in Montgomery County. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments shows homelessness in the region rose 1% to 9,790 people. The count, done on Feb. 4 and shared at a Wednesday meeting, saw increases in D.C. and Prince George’s while Montgomery County reported a decline after expanding housing options.  WTOP
  • Montgomery County officials condemned racist remarks by two GOP colleagues who mocked Delegate Wu’s accent and accused him of spying.
