  • A 2-year-old girl died after being left in a car for hours in the Wheaton-Glenmont area when Montgomery County Fire and Rescue found her on Wednesday—official cause of death remains under investigation.  WUSA9

  • Montgomery County police are asking for help to locate Brandon Lee Smith, a 27-year-old autistic man last seen Friday around 7 p.m. near McGrath Blvd — Citadel Avenue in Rockville while wearing black and green pajama pants, a gray Champion hoodie and a royal blue North Face jacket as he carried a gray bowl with cereal.  WTOP

  • Hundreds of protesters gathered outside NIH in Bethesda on Saturday to fight a proposed 40% funding cut that they say will hurt health care research. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, D.—citing the cuts as making America sicker—will file a resolution on Monday calling on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. to resign.  WUSA9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maryland health and labor officials have finalized new workplace heat stress rules to protect workers as the state enters its annual heat season after a 2024 summer that saw 27 heat-related deaths and over 1,200 emergency room visits. Employers must now provide water, cool areas, and scheduled breaks when the heat index rises—steps intended to give workers time to adjust safely to high temperatures.  WTOP
