- ➤ AstraZeneca opened its new $300 million cell therapy manufacturing facility in Rockville on Monday at 9950 Medical Center Drive—designed to produce treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases from early next year. - ➤ Montgomery County parents, teachers and staff are urging the superintendent to adopt an 'Away All Day' policy that would require students to lock away cell phones and other devices during school hours to reduce distractions and improve safety. - ➤ Spotted lanternfly nymphs are being seen in D.C., Maryland and Virginia; these invasive bugs are about a quarter inch long and are black with white spots. They appear in May and will grow into adults by July—residents are urged to crush the insects to help protect local trees and crops. WUSA9
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County Council introduced a bill to raise fines for unlicensed profit parties — the law would increase fines from $25 to up to $500 to address disruptive events in neighborhoods, and a public hearing is set for June 10.
