  • Anthony Cohen of Germantown, a Rockville High graduate, began his 750-mile Freedom Walk on Monday from Sandy Spring Slave Museum toward Toronto; he plans to walk 12 miles a day—reaching Canada by July 4 while sharing stories of the Underground Railroad.  Montgomery Community Media

  • A Crossland High School financial literacy teacher received a $500 check during teacher appreciation week in Rockville to honor her dedication. The gesture reflects local efforts to support educators.  WUSA9
  • Students and guardians from 41 schools gathered at Montgomery College’s Germantown campus for the Spring 2026 Game Changer’s Conference hosted by Unity Christian Fellowship—celebrating its 20th anniversary.   • Piney Branch Elementary celebrates National Physical Education & Sport Week by offering swim lessons and classroom water safety sessions. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal officials designated Maryland as under a drought disaster on April 17, and nine counties including Montgomery are eligible for USDA assistance. Although the state does not face an immediate water shortage, below-average rainfall and below-normal groundwater levels call for careful water use.  WTOP

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jessica Ceja of Silver Spring became Montgomery County’s first adult and Maryland’s second patient to receive the FDA-approved Lyfgenia at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
