- ➤ MoCo firefighter Lt. Christopher Higgins’s name will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg this weekend to honor his sacrifice after he collapsed responding to a house fire in January 2025, & two memorial services are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. MoCo360

- ➤ WTOP’s Eyes to the Skies feature previews May’s events with a full flower moon today at 10:12 p.m., a slim crescent near Venus, and a full blue moon on May 31 — stargazers can also find tips on spotting Venus and star Vega. WTOP
- ➤ Eight Rockville seniors in their 70s and 80s prepared weekly for an adult b’nai mitzvah ceremony at Revitz House and celebrated their cultural milestone in February. - ➤ MCPS will host a job fair for bus drivers and attendants on Tuesday, May 12 from 10:30 a.m.+12:30 p.m. at the Division of Transportation Services on Crabbs Branch Way in Rockville. Montgomery County Public Schools
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools held a waste reduction, reuse and recycling poster contest ceremony that honored kindergarten through 12th grade student artists using the One Item, Many Lives theme. - ➤ On Thursday, Apr. 29, the Montgomery County Public Schools Board approved a revised 2026–2027 calendar (reflecting input from more than 30,000 families and staff) that keeps Monday, Aug. 24 as a transition day and Tuesday, Aug. 25 as the first full day while adding make-up days for weather. - ➤ At the Longview TRYathlon, about 80 students from Spark M. Matsunaga Elementary School’s autism program and Longview School cycled, walked and rolled with help from teachers, therapists, and support staff as parents cheered their success. Montgomery County Public Schools
- ➤ State testing for Montgomery County Public Schools began April 28 and continues through May to track student learning after a full school year.
