  • Montgomery County police said that 77-year-old Paul Jerome Marangos died after he was hit by a 2020 white Genesis G70 sedan while crossing Shady Grove Road from the median at the intersection of Shady Grove and Blackwell roads in Rockville on Thursday night—police said the driver stayed at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.  MoCo360

  • Police in Montgomery County are seeking help to locate a Hispanic man seen driving a white newer model Ford Mustang — he dropped a Hispanic woman with multiple tattoos at White Oak Medical Center on Sunday morning, where she died shortly after arrival.  WUSA9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery County Public Schools teams from William Tyler Page Elementary, Roberto W. Clemente Middle, Hallie Wells Middle, Albert Einstein High, John F. Kennedy High and Paint Branch High will compete in the MESA state competition on May 3 at Johns Hopkins University—each team showcasing projects like a planetary lander, wearable technology and a trash robot to spark interest in STEM.  Montgomery County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County council overturned Gov. Marc Elrich's veto and approved a pilot program that lets developers turn commercial spaces with more than 50% vacancy into homes for lower income families + the law replaces taxes with a fixed payment for 20 years, aiming to boost housing and tax revenues in Bethesda, Germantown and Silver Spring.  Montgomery Community Media
  • On Monday, April 28, Montgomery County public safety heroes were honored at the 50th Annual Public Safety Awards held at the Bethesda Marriott Hotel—awardees rescued people in emergencies such as fires and suicide attempts.   • On April 29, Montgomery County Planning Board approved Chaberton Energy’s 11-acre solar project in Poolesville despite county planners recommending denial because the plan exceeds the zoning limit for solar development on prime agricultural soil — the decision now moves to the Maryland Public Service Commission with a public hearing set for May 19 and potential construction beginning soon to power about 500 homes by the end of 2026.  MoCo360
