- ➤ Northwood High sophomore Leul Dawit won the election for Montgomery County Board of Education with 64% of 58,424 votes on April 28 and will be sworn in in June for a one-year term. His win is first from Northwood since 1978 as school boundaries and programming changes loom. MoCo360
- ➤ Over 300 families are appealing to the State Board of Education to challenge Montgomery County Public Schools’ plan to move Wootton High students to Gaithersburg’s new Crown High — the appeal claims the decision used faulty data and improper closure procedures, and the change will take effect in fall 2027. - ➤ This fall, Montgomery Housing Partnership will break ground on a $150M housing and arts center project in downtown Wheaton that redevelops Amherst Square Apartments into 39 townhomes and 272 apartments.
