Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 20th of April.
Good morning, Rockville.
🎓 Education
Montgomery County Public Schools is inviting community input via an online survey for possible changes to the 2026-2027 school calendar, including an earlier start in August and revised makeup days (with potential shortened breaks).
The board will decide on these changes at its April 30 meeting.
Montgomery County Public Schools is weighing an earlier school year start and a gradual meal price hike to address rising costs and state requirements.
A staff survey and public input at the school board will guide the final plan (feedback could help reduce the impact on low-income families).
🏥 Health
Maryland confirmed its first measles case of 2026 on April 19 and health officials advised residents to review their vaccination status—especially if they visited IAD airport, FastMed Urgent Care, or Sinai Hospital between April 12 and April 17.
Anyone with symptoms such as fever or rash should seek care.
