EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS approved a shift to a regional programming model on March 26 to increase equity with a legacy cohort allowed to continue current programs until graduation and new admissions planned for 2026-2027, and former superintendent Joshua Starr & local advocates support the change while some groups voice concerns.  MoCo360
  • MCPS will host a special education webinar on May 6 on Zoom to share updates on services; families can also join a SECAC meeting on April 23 on Zoom and a resource fair on May 9 at Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville.  Montgomery County Public Schools
  • Montgomery County policymakers face rising pressure from educators, union leaders, and families to approve the largest school budget in MCPS history. County Executive Marc Elrich explained that the investment in education (not neglecting it) is essential for long-term success.  WJLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brookside Gardens hosts the annual Butterfly Experience, where visitors explore a tropical setting filled with diverse butterfly species and learn about conservation. The exhibit runs through Sept. 7 and invites locals to support nature + plant native blooms.  Montgomery Community Media
