- ➤ Addison Finlay from Northwood High School has won the 2026 R.A.I.S.E. Champion of the Year Award for excellence in indoor hurdling, academics, and leadership. - ➤ More than a hundred Rockville residents rallied on Wednesday outside the Montgomery County Council to urge full funding of a $3.8 billion school system budget request aimed at reducing class sizes and increasing special education support — the council will decide on the budget mid-May. WJLA
- ➤ Lorena Wu (a sophomore at Poolesville High) was named by Governor Moore to be Maryland's next Student Member of the Board for MCPS for the 2026–2027 school year. - ➤ Montgomery County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to ban invasive running bamboo — a plant known to spread quickly underground and damage patios — after concerns grew over its rapid spread.
