  • Today, Montgomery County will have sunny skies with below normal temperatures — MCPS middle schools can register for the Paint the Plow contest until 5 p.m. Friday and the Council banned bamboo to spur native plants. CULTURE NEWS

  • Locally owned Andy’s Pizza, Takoma Park’s SOKO Butcher and a Silver Spring employee were named finalists Monday for the RAMMY Award, honoring regional restaurant talent – winners will be announced on June 29 at Arena Stage at The Mead Center for American Theater.  MoCo360

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hallie Wells Middle School hosted its Women in Wax project where students and staff dressed as figures like Harriet Tubman + their service learning efforts boosted confidence and deepened knowledge of women’s contributions.   • Montgomery County Public Schools is recruiting community leaders to join its Advisory Committee on Communication and Community Engagement for a one-year term. Volunteers will advise on a countywide school boundary study and must apply by Friday, May 1.  Montgomery County Public Schools
  • Educators, union leaders, and families in Rockville are urging county leaders to fully fund the $3.8 billion MCPS budget that will support rising costs and staffing needs (a 6% property tax increase is proposed to fill budget gaps).  WJLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local environmental advocates and county officials are urging Atmosphere Data Centers to power its proposed 110-acre data center campus in Dickerson entirely on renewable energy (amid concerns over diesel generator backup and high water usage), as the project awaits final permits.  MoCo360

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Metro’s board of directors will vote on a plan Thursday to spend over $93 million on new customer terminals that replace old fare machines and enable credit card payments, trip planning, and travel alerts.  WJLA
  • WSSC Water reduced fluoride in water from 0.7 to 0.4 mg on Tuesday for 1.9 million customers in Prince George's and Montgomery counties because supply chain issues from the war in Iran affected shipments.
